Adams announces the passing of Reverend Anthony Lamar Morris, 55, who transitioned Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.

Public Viewing via our Drive Thru will be Friday from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.

Anthony was born August 16, 1965 to Cora Mae Morris and Samuel Gordon, Jr.  He is the grandson of the late Willie Joe & Eassie Reynolds Morris and Samuel Gordon Sr. & Margaret Baxley Gordon. He was also the son-in-law to the late Civil Rights Activist Frances Bright Johnson which all preceded him in death except his father.

Anthony was educated in the Chatham County Public School System. At an early age Anthony began working at Critz Buick, under coating and rust proofing cars. Then he began detailing cars for Tommie Allen and this is how he became to be called “Pop-Smurff”, because of his beard and short stature.  After a year Anthony began to work for Ms. Gail Jackson for 3 years washing and detailing cars. Which was something he loved to do. In March of 1983 he met the love of his life and started dating Catherine, who is now his wife.  In 1984 they welcome a son, Darvin, into the world, then in December of 1985 they welcome a baby girl, Tina.

In January of 1987 Anthony was joined in marriage to his wife of 38 years, Catherine Bright Morris this union was blessed with two children.

In 1999 Anthony had a major career change, he began to work at the Savannah Sugar Refinery known now as Imperial Sugar.  He was a floor man for 9 years.

In 1999 Anthony went back to school at former Savannah Technical  School. After graduation he went into the trucking industry where he worked for several companies, Swift Transportation, Buring Motor Carriers, and Bulldog just to name a few. Anthony loved driving trucks and did for the past 21 years.

Anthony leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife of 38 years, Catherine Bright Morris, one daughter, Tina Morris, 2- sons, Darvin Morris, Andre Bright, his father Samuel Gordon, Jr. (Claradean), 3 brothers, Reginald Speaks, Ashanti(Jasmine) all of Savannah, Michael A. Speaks, Sr. (Penny), 5 sisters: Pamela Speaks (Columbia, SC), Constance Williams (Robert), Jacqueline Speaks,  Lisa Speaks Scott (Lance) of Savannah, ShaVona Gordon. 1- Auntie  Cecelia Jones , Charlotte, NC,  two grand aunts,  Carrie Reynolds and Sara Jenkins of Savannah. One uncle, John Gordon (Zelmar} Washington, DC. , two God-daughters Anddress Green of Atlanta, GA, Octavia Lee of Savannah, GA , 11 Grand Children, Jerti Wright,  Andr’ea, Birmingham AL, Andre’sa  Bright, Atlanta, GA, Akira Bright, Juwan Harvey, Amya Bright, Demtrie Alfred, Chance Hamilton of Atlanta, GA, Jo’ella Roberson, Josh’Sheena Roberson, 3 Sister in-laws, Norma N. Grayson (Timothy), Effalena B. Jones (Lorenzo), Atlanta, GA., Cheryl Johnson, Savannah, GA, one brother in-law, Minister Rufus Bright, Jr, Savannah, GA.
