April 14, 1929 — July 6, 2020

Adams announces the passing of Ms. Mildred Butler, 91, who transitioned on Monday, July 6, 2020 at Pruitt Health & Rehab.

Mildred Butler was born April 14, 1929 in Girard, Georgia to James Sr. and Hattie Boyd-Butler.

Mildred, affectionately known as Nana, was an avid reader. She loved to play card games and watch games shows on television. She loved fellowshipping with family and friends and also engaged in conversation with everyone. She had a love for cooking and was always ready to host and entertain. Over time, the “Old Fort” members relocated to other areas throughout the city. Although not a resident of “Old Fort”, thru friendships, she was member and intricate part of the social club that was dedicated to raising funds to sponsor the First Old Fort Reunion in 1967.This became an annual event.

Mildred was a dedicated member of Second Arnold Baptist Church for more than 70 years.

She served in the following ministries: Gospel Chorus, Pastors Aid, Senior and Youth Missions and attended Sunday School as a member of Class # 7. She participated on many programs and was the program chairperson for several years for the Senior Mission and Gospel Chorus Anniversaries. She was involved faithfully until her health failed.

On July 6, 2020 Mildred transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly home.

She leaves to cherish loving memories, one son, Bobby (Velma) Butler Sr., two daughters, Sandra (Richard) Williams and Annette (Jessie) Williams, one brother, James (Idonia) Butler Jr. eight grandchildren, Bobby (Tiffany) Butler Jr., Corey (Jaray) Butler Sr., Bobbi (Michael) McPhaul, Kimberly (Anthony) Phillips, Brian (Bridgett) Butler Sr., Jerry (Clista) Butler, Jessie Williams II, Jessica Williams, seventeen great-grands and seven great-great grands and a host of cousins and friends.
