Florence Carter was born on June 4, 1950 in the town of Waco, Texas to Mr. Floyd and Willie Jewel Iglehart where she lived most of her childhood years on the family property and farm.  She graduated with her high school  diploma from George Washington Carver High School via Waco, Texas.  Later down the line and upon the ending her first marriage to Larry Johnson and the birth of her first two children, she return to school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).  Few years after becoming an LPN, she met David Carter,  who at that time was enlisted with the U.S. Army and stationed at Ft Hood, military base.   After 20 years as a military spouse to David Carter, they choose to settle down in his hometown Savannah, Georgia. Upon moving to Savannah, Florence continued her career as an LPN along with countless hours of volunteer work within the community. Later she attended Savannah State University where she achieved her bachelor’s in social work and Master’s in Art.  She was also instrumental as the founder, President and treasurer of the Fernwood Community Association (currently known as Fernwood-Parkwood-Sunset Community Association) where she lived, and it led to multiple improvements for all residents in the neighborhood.  Florence Carter was a No-nonsense woman that was not afraid to speak her mind and tell you her truth.  She valued education, family , loved creating art and bringing joy into the lives of all those that knew her. She would go out of her way to help family and friends in any way that she could and was a constant source of wise advice for her family, friends and whomever crossed her path.
