OBITUARY

Heaven sent an angel down on Sunday, January 17, 2021 and bore the bright spirit of  Mr. Ronald Leonard Jones away to an everlasting paradise.

Ronald, and his twin brother, Donald Bernard Jones, were born at Charity Hospital in Savannah, Georgia on February 3, 1952 to the late James, Sr. and Lanie Mae Jones. Through the guidance of his parents, Ronald confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Savannah, Georgia. He received his early education in Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools and continued his education at Savannah State College. After leaving college, Ronald enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country.

Ronald is best known for his magnificent artistry. Jones' artwork exudes the warmth, creativity, and vibrancy of life that is centered around what is important to us - God, family, our livelihood, and our health. His most memorable work highlights the strength, beauty, and resiliency of our communities, especially of New Orleans. One of his most celebrated artwork is the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival Poster, Congo Square (1992). He was also the Illustrator for Olympic Black Women (1992) and Famous Firsts of Black Women (1995), both by Martha Plowden.

Ronald leaves to cherish his loving memory one daughter, Monica McNeal, two sons, Euice Sampson and Ronnie Jones, his beloved twin brother, Donald Jones (Marilyn), and extended family, including nieces, nephews, cousins and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Jones, Sr. and Lanie Mae Jones, his brother, Dr. Ibrahim Bayan, and sister, Sandra A. Berry. Ronald is also greatly loved by his Godsister, neighbors, and friends from Savannah, New Orleans, and New Hampshire.
