Adams announces the passing of Mr. Necholus Ogden, 72, who transitioned on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Necholus (Nick) Ogden Sr. was born on March 3, 1947 to the late Moses and Minnie Ogden in Baxley GA. He was the 3rd of 6 children. He passed away on February 19, 2020 at St. Joseph Hospital.

Nick graduated from Appling County High School in 1965 Baxley, GA.  Nick attended Fort Valley State University and graduated with a B.S. in Agriculture in 1969. While matriculating at Fort Valley State University he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

At an early age Nick Sr. became a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Baxley, GA

Nick met Dorothy (Raymond) at FVSU and they were married on October 12, 1968. They had two children Necholus Ogden Jr. and Deidra LaTrelle Ogden Tolbert.

Nick Ogden Sr. was drafted and served in the United States Army from 1969-1971 during the Vietnam War.

Nick and Dorothy raised their two children in Jonesboro, GA where he was an active member of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a founding member of the Jonesboro Chapter of the NAACP.

In 1991 Nick and Dorothy moved to Savannah, GA.

Nick had 33 years of dedicated Federal Service, 17 years of which were with the US Army Corps of Engineers. Prior to the Corps of Engineers he served with the USDA Soil Conservation Service for 16years as a District Conservationist. In 1986 he served as the Senior Biologist managing the Regulatory Branch Field Office in Atlanta. In 1992 he was selected as the Chief of the Regulatory Branch, Operations Division, Savannah District.

- Principal of Ogden Consulting and Construction Inc.

Nick was a dedicated member of St. Philip AME church in Savannah, GA and served as:

Steward Board Pro-Tem
Steward Board Assistant Pro-Tem
Member of Sons of Allen
Chaired numerous programs

Nick is preceded in death by his parents Moses Eli Ogden and Minnie Ella Sumner Ogden and his brother Foster (Evelyn) Ogden of Fort Valley GA.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Dorothy Ogden and his two children: Necholus (Gail) Ogden of Fairfax Station VA, and Deidra (Lothario) Ogden-Tolbert  and four wonderful grandchildren, Sydney Ogden, Necholus Ogden III, Gabriel Tolbert, and Daniel Tolbert.

He also leaves behind three sisters Shirley (Robert) Wright of Hazlehurst, GA; Vivian (Walter) Lewis of Warner Robins GA, and Lanelle (Rodrick) Ogden of Fort Mitchell AL; one brother Moses Ogden Jr. (Ida) of Baxley, GA.

He also leaves six brothers and sisters-in-law: Billy (Betty) Raymond of Jonesboro GA, Judy (Curtis) Ziegler of McDonough GA, Ben Raymond of Statesboro, GA; Janie (Martin) Spencer of Cartersville, GA; Wynton (Michelle) of Monroe, NC , Marnette Reid of Statesboro GA and Eric (Cynthia) of Powder Springs, GA and his mother-in-law Argentina Ward of Statesboro, GA

Two god-children Dr. Brandon Morgan and Felicia Hamilton along with special friends Chris and Frances Thompson. He will miss the numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members as well as friends.
