Vera Mitchell Grant was born, August 7, 1952 in Brooks County, Georgia (Quitman)to the late Robbie Mitchell Sr., and Martha Raines Mitchell (both of whom preceded her in death). Vera was raised in Quitman, Georgia by her grandparents, Ed and Leola Raines. Vera started school in Brooks County prior to relocating to Savannah Chatham County Public Schools in Savannah, Georgia in the 4th grade.

Vera’s life continued in Savannah, GA where she completed her primary education. In 1970, she graduated from Savannah High School. In 1974, she earned a Bachelor of Science in education from Savannah State College. Vera’s education career continued and she earned her Secondary Education Addendum from Armstrong Atlantic University in 1982. In 1988, she earned a Master of Public Administration from Savannah State University and a Master of Philosophy in Leadership and Organizational Skills in 2021 from Walden University. Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Vera became a doctoral candidate and completed her ABD (All But Dissertation) at Walden University prior to her most recent decline in health.

Vera’s religious teachings started in Quitman, Georgia under the guidance of her grandparents in St. Philip AME church. In Savannah she became spiritually connected to First Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and later to Happy Home Missionary Baptist Church. “May my Work Speak for Me”.l
While in the church Vera was a member in the choir (singing to the Glory of God), served as Church reporter and announcer (spreading the word of God), Sunday School and Bible study teacher (teaching about God’s word and helping others to learn of God’s glory and power.)
Vera often spoke on the word from her early childhood years to her adulthood.
Additionally, Vera’s belief in GOD was always glorified. She often said, “remember me and my belief and how much l studied the word of God”
Vera often quoted many scriptures as she encouraged others through to learn.

Vera’s career expanded into many areas through her educational background with teaching experiences from child care to higher learning, finance, public administration, legal documentations in the judicial system, government scholar, writing, and a publish author of “A Journey through Youth”. In her lifetime she received numerous accolades, awards, medallions, and honors.
Vera’s greatest honors was giving GOD thanks for earthly achievements and recognitions.

In 1974, Vera was join in holy matrimony to Henry Grant III (decease). From this union were two children, a son who preceded her in death and a daughter the joy of her life, Nailah C. Grant.
Vera leaves to cherish her memories, her beloved daughter (Nailah C. Grant of Charlotte, NC), a God-daughter she adores Victoria J. Washington and family of Hardeville,SC., others adorable god-daughters Valerie C. Waldburg of Savannah, GA.,and Marcia Champien of Savannah,GA., brother Robbie Mitchell Jr., Ph.D her rock (Patricia Mitchell) of Petersburg, Va., a niece NaKeesha M. Palmore and Darnell Palmore of Petersburg, Va, a nephew Romon M. Mitchell of Savannah, Ga. A host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Vera especially adored, Sanaa Washington and Joseph Washington III.
To God be the Glory
for what he has done
created a beautiful specimen
to share his earth
now to separate the earth from the sun
The ending now upon dawn.
