Solomon Myers, Jr

March 9, 1922 — September 19, 2008

Mr. Solomon Myers, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 19, 2008 surrounded by his sons and daughter. He was a faithful communicant of Saint Benedict the Moor Catholic Church.

Mr. Myers served his country as an Officer of the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. He made history as the first Black Company Commander at Camp Stewart(Fort Stewart). He was a retired Administrator with the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System.

Both his wives, Juanita Primus Myers and Beatrice Doe Myers, preceded him in death.

He is survived by one daughter, Donna Myers Oliver (Malone) of Savannah, GA; two sons: Solomon Myers, III (Lula) of Savannah, GA and Gussie O'Neal Doe (Annette) of Atlanta, GA; three brothers: Earl Myers of Savannah, GA, Ernest Myers of Birmingham, AL and Jerome Myers (Mary) of Long Island, NY; three grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rosary Service: 6:00pm Tuesday, September 23, 2008. Funeral service: 11:00am, Wednesday, September 24, 2008. Both services will be held at Saint Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, 441 East Broad Street, Rev. Christian A, Alimaji, Pastor.
Interment: Hillcrest Abbey-West, 1336 Dean Forest Road, Garden City, GA., with full Military Honors.
