IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Jenkins
Price
December 18, 1951 – January 5, 2026
Shirley Jenkins-Price, born December 18, 1951, entered eternal rest on January 5, 2026, leaving behind a life overflowing with love, laughter, faith, and unforgettable memories.
Shirley was fiercely intelligent and exceptionally talented, graduating high school at just 16. She completed her studies with the Groves High School Class of 1968, though her true alma mater was Thompkins High School, Class of 1968—a playful nod to her roots that she loved to share.
On January 26, 1974, Shirley married Mr. Calvin Price. They shared 12 years together, raising four wonderful children: Calvin, Lydell, Ryan, and Taniqua. Though their marriage ended in divorce, Shirley remained deeply devoted to her children and family, always fiercely protective and wholeheartedly committed to their happiness and success.
Shirley’s career reflected her dedication and determination. She began as a telephone operator, became one of only two women line workers at BellSouth, and later worked as a drafting clerk for AT&T until her retirement in 2007. Her love of learning never waned—she continued to take classes and earn certifications throughout her life, embodying lifelong curiosity and excellence.
A lifetime member of the United House of Prayer for All People, Shirley faithfully served as a Sunday School Scholar and most recently as President of the No. 2 Ushers. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, radiating warmth and joy to all who knew her. She extended her heart beyond her immediate family—visiting the elderly and sick, delivering meals to those in need, and encouraging young people to love God, serve Him faithfully, and pursue education and self-improvement.
Shirley’s personality was unforgettable—brutally honest, cheerful, carefree, funny, and always the life of the party. She loved socializing, cooking, baking, sewing, and creating magical moments for her family. Her home was a haven of laughter, love, and welcoming aromas that reflected the heart she poured into everything she did.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex Jenkins and Virgin Mary Jenkins; her sister, Nancy Jenkins-Woodard; and her brothers, Lemanuel Jenkins and Danny Jenkins.
Shirley leaves to celebrate her memory her four children: Calvin Price, Lydell Price (Shonda), Ryan Price (Racquel), and Taniqua Price-Slaughter (Ronald); her ten grandchildren: Calvin Price Jr., Ryan Price Jr., Nia Slaughter, Lyra Price, Raniyah Price, Lyiah Price, Reina Price, Ca’lel Price, Ca’Lonnie Price, and Mahki Williams; her seven siblings: James Jenkins, Celeste Hurst, Virginia Williams (James), Ondra Jenkins, Solomon Jenkins (Rose), Esteen Williams (James), and Irvin Jenkins (Sharon); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
Shirley will be incredibly missed, but her love, joy, laughter, and unwavering spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone she touched. Her legacy is one of faith, family, service, and fearless devotion to those she loved most.
