Richmond Fergerson, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on November 20,
2025 at the age of 83.
He was born on June 17, 1942 in Garnett, South Carolina. Richmond
proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Senior Master
Sergeant before beginning a long and dedicated career with the New
York City Transit Police, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant.
After his years in law enforcement, he continued his professional
pursuits as a real estate appraiser and later in various business
ventures.
Throughout his life, Richmond was active in his community. He formed
and held leadership roles in both the Hungry Club Forum of Savannah
and The Joe Addison Family & Youth Community Network, organizations
focused on dialogue, education, and community development. He enjoyed
jazz music, sports, and the company of friends and colleagues. He was
also very active with the Beach High School Alumni Association.
Richmond was married three times and was the father of three children:
Marie Fergerson (pre-deceased), Gerard Fergerson (pre-deceased), and
Eric Fergerson of Atlanta, Georgia. He has one sister Charlesetta
Fergerson (Miami, Florida), and his brother, Robert Fergerson
(pre-deceased). He is survived by his granddaughter, Kaylah Robinson,
along with a host of family, including uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces,
cousins, and friends.
Friends and family will have the opportunity to pay their respects during the viewing, which will take place on December 1, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Adams Funeral Services located at 510 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, GA 31405. Following the viewing, a funeral service will be held at the same location at 11:00 AM. Richmond will be laid to rest at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC, where the burial ceremony will commence at 2:00 PM.
