Retired Sergeant Nathaniel Paul ""Hambone"" Howard, 88, had his transition Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 1503 Stillwood Drive, a private health home, surrounded by his loving and devoted family
A native of Savannah, GA Chatham County, ""Hambone"", as he was affectionately called, attended the public schools of Chatham County. He was a member of St, Benedict The Moor Catholic Church. Mr. Howard retired after forty-two years in the United States Army, where he received an Honorable Discharge.
His parents, Frank Howard and Rosa Singleton Howard, preceded him in death.
Survivors: four daughters: Belinda Chaplin, Brenda H. (Robert) Kennedy, Faye Howard and Shelia Howard, all of Savannah; four sons: Nathaniel ""Paul"" Howard, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, Carlton Howard of Savannah, Georgia, Fred Howard of Desoto, Texas and Albert ""Peter"" Howard of Jacksonville, Florida; four daughters-in-law; nineteen grands; three sisters; on brother-in-law; eighteen great-grands; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service: Friday, March 6, 2009 at Saint Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, 441 East Broad Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401, Rev. Christian A. Alimaji, Pastor. Public viewing: Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 9:00am to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Mr. Howard will lie in state at the church Friday, from 9:00am until the hour of service. Interment: Catholic Cemetery with full Military Honors.
