Sonya D. Stimpson was born to the late Royal and Mildred Stimpson on January 4, 1961, in Montgomery, Alabama.

As an adolescent, Sonya attended Beach High School in Savannah, Georgia, and later attended Savannah State College, now designated as Savannah State University, where she graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry.

Within months, Sonya accepted employment with Hunt-Wesson Oil as a Chemist, where she analyzed food-grade oil samples subsequent to the packaging and shipment to retailers. Sonya worked 16 years at Hunt-Wesson until they were acquired and later closed, presenting her an opportunity to join Fuji Oil Processing and remain in the same industry. Sonya continued to thrive at Fuji Oil, applying her chemistry skills, knowledge, and expertise in the food grade processing community.

After many years with Fuji, Sonya took early retirement to care for her father, who had taken ill and later passed.

Sonya's favorite pastimes were gardening, shopping, and visiting the sick and shut-in.

On October 4, 2025, the Lord called Sonya home.

She is survived by her two siblings, Tangi Stimpson-Neal (Anthony) and Royal Stimpson III, 2 aunts (Laura Mole and Julia Sheffield), nephews (Anthony Jr. and Adrian), nieces, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, and a host of cousins.

She is also mourned by many beloved friends and neighbors.
