Obituary

Ms. Erselene Young was born on May 16, 1939 in Register, Georgia to the late Vernon and Lucile Kent. She was brought up in the Metter, GA public school system and graduated from Candler County Training School in 1957.

At a young age, she was introduced to the faith and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Years later, she moved to Savannah, Georgia. There she met and married her husband, James Young, who preceded her in death. Ms. Young worked most of her life as a private, in-home caregiver. Mrs. William and Connie Burk was the last family she cared for prior to her retirement.

While in Savannah, she attended St. Paul CME Church for many years and served on the usher board. She began attending Jonesville Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until her death. She loved her pastor immensely and formed an immediate connection when she first met him.

Ms. Young passed away on March 24, 2023 and entered eternal rest, now free from prolonged pain and suffering. Many who knew her would remember her as a homebody; only going from work to home or church back home. Her passion was caring for others, as she loved to cook and clean. One notable aspect of her life was attending Jonesville Baptist Church. Although she could not attend on a regular basis as she had in the past, she would light up when she heard Bishop Rodges’ voice on the phone when he called to check on her.

She leaves to cherish her memories a special companion of twenty years, Leon Blake II; four godchildren, Leon Blake III, Michael King, Calanda, and Clara Blake-Wilson; a special first cousin, Calvin Mainor, who gave unwavering care and love to her throughout her illness, and a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
