Dena Louise Pippen

Dena Louise Pippen was the first-born twin to Grover and Fannie Louise (Faye) Pippen in Brunswick, Georgia on July 25, 1942. Upon her retirement from DC General, Dena moved back to Georgia in 2000 to continue in the role of caregiver for her mother and great aunt. She worked part-time as a nurse in Savannah at various hospitals: St. Candler’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Memorial Hospital, Georgia Psychiatric Regional Hospital, and Riverview Health and Rehabilitation Center. In her spare time, Dena volunteered at the Bull Street Library and the American Red Cross. She was actively involved at ministries at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, and Trinity Lutheran Church as a member. She was well versed in the holy bible and enthusiastically enjoyed classical music, particularly Handel’s Messiah.
Dena is survived by her devoted daughter, Latecia (Tish) Engram. She is also survived by her twin sister, Doris (George) C. Branch; two nephews, Sean (Renee) Gibson Powder Springs, GA and Boris C. Branch, of Washington, DC; one grand-niece, one grandnephew, several first cousins, and a host of extended family, colleagues, and friends. Dena was predeceased by her baby sister Sue and her daughter, niece Tanji Gibson.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the Shiloh Baptist Church of Washington, DC and internment at Maryland National Memorial Cemetery in Laurel, Maryland.
