Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" Burks

August 25, 1950 — September 8, 2022

Savannah, Georgia

Adams announces the passing of Mrs. Margaret J. Burks "Peggy", 72 who transitioned on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at her residence.

Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, September 14, 2022 in The Adams Chapel.

Visitation will be held from 4 PM - 6 PM, Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at the funeral home.

Loving Mother, Margaret “Peggy” Jane Burks, earned her Angel wings and went home to her Heavenly Father on September 8, 2022 at the age of 72.

Peggy was born to Dorthy Sarber and Passmere G. Burkett on August 25, 1950 in Johnstown Pennsylvania. She attended Johnstown High School where she excelled academically in business education courses, honed her leadership abilities in the Y-Teens program, and earned a varsity letter for girls’ basketball. After graduation, Peggy joined and served honorably in the United States Army as a Stock Control and Accounting Specialist, earning the National Defense Service Medal during the Vietnam War.

She eventually left active-duty military service to marry the love of her life, Calvin Uzel Burks Jr., and raise their son, John Albert Burks. She still continued to serve her country, working as a Federal Employee at various Army installations across the United States and Germany, as well as positions in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. For more than 20 years, she was somehow able to balance motherhood with a demanding full-time career and the challenges of being a military spouse. Upon retirement she was able to devote all of her time to being an amazing Mother, Grandmother, friend, and a person who always spread love across her community. Peggy’s life was far too short for the people who treasured her, but the loving imprint she left on so many hearts greatly exceeded the quantity of time that she spent on this earth.

Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Jr., her parents, Dorothy and Passmere, sister, Dorothy, and brothers, William and Passmere. She is survived by her son, John, daughter-in-law, Shanetta, her grandchildren, Juwel, John Jr., and Jordan, along with Mr. John and Helen Shipes and their children Quintin and Candice, as well as countless relatives and friends who all loved her dearly.
