Ms. Juanita Wright-Cuttray, affectionately known as “Mama, Mama Cuttray, Aunt Nita and Grandma” to many, was born February 8, 1938 in Millen, Georgia to the late James Nelson and Beulah Wright. Both parents preceded her in death.
She attended the public schools of Chatham County and was a graduate of Alfred Ely Beach High School. She later attended and graduated from Draughon’s Business School (South University)of Savannah, Georgia. Armed with skills necessary to take the office world by force she began her fulfilling career as the secretary for First Bryant Baptist Church and later served as same for Greater Friendship Baptist Church. After deciding to make a change she became employed at Day Break Restaurant of Days Inn Hotel where she was well known and loved by regular locals and tourists. She later served 8 years as a Foster Grandparent for the EOA.
At an early age she began her Christian walk. She was a member of Greater Friendship Baptist Church for many years where she served as the treasurer and a member of the choir. She was a pioneer of Victory Bible Fellowship and an active member for 25 years, serving as a member of the praise team and Voices of Victory. A concept that started from her loving nature and wanting to do something nice to spark fellowship following services was “Cuttray’s Cafe”. She took pride in providing “sweets with a smile” and was honored by members of VBF when they took her concept and turned it into something she could call her own.
Juanita was married to Isaac Cuttray to which they had a son Ronald A. Cuttray, who preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter in law Felicia T. Hendrix-Cuttray, a granddaughter Alicia D. Williams, two grandsons Jamere A. and Ronald A. Cuttray Jr., four great-grandchildren Jaron and Jawaun Williams, Jameia Cuttray and her special baby known as her “pocket book” Janae’ Williams, three loving nephews Kevin (Cynthia), Keith (Sonya) and Anthony Green, she was preceded in death by her four brothers and two sisters Lottie Bell Hunter (Timothy), Joseph Wright (Nellie), Matthew Wright (Mary), Charles Wright (Gaddie), Willie Wright (Janie), and Juliea Green (Willie) and a host of relatives and friends.
