Dr. Delores B. Cummings

Dr. Delores Cummings, a beloved educator and cherished member of the Savannah community, passed away on July 3, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on July 30, 1947, Dr. Cummings dedicated her life to the noble profession of teaching, leaving an indelible mark on the many students who had the privilege of being in her classrooms at Sol C. Johnson High School.

With a career that spanned several decades, Dr. Cummings was not only a wealth of knowledge but also an inspiration to both her colleagues and students. Her unwavering commitment to education went beyond the curriculum; she nurtured curiosity, encouraged critical thinking, and championed the pursuit of excellence. Dr. Cummings fostered a supportive environment that empowered students to strive for their best, instilling in them the importance of lifelong learning.

Her impact on the community extended far beyond her teaching. In addition to her role at the high school, Dr. Cummings was actively involved in various educational initiatives and community programs, working collaboratively to enhance the lives of those around her. Dr. Cummings is survived by her loving husband, family, friends and colleagues, who will carry forth her spirit of compassion, knowledge, and inspiration in the years ahead. Her contributions to education and her commitment to fostering a brighter future for the community remain deeply appreciated, and her memory will forever be held in the hearts of those who knew her.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 12, 2025 at White Bluff Presbyterian Church located 10710 White Bluff Rd, Savannah, GA 31406.
