OBITUARY:
Maurice Antonio Smith was born on December 1, 1981 in Bremerhaven, Germany. He was raised in Savannah, Georgia. He was a loving and spoiled child who brought much joy to his family.
He was educated in the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools. He graduated from Sol C. Johnson High School in 2000 before joining the United States Marine Corp. He served in Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14 specializing in Avionics and as a radar technician. He was honorably discharged after serving his country during the Iraqi war.
He married Evelyn Ross on February 1, 2014 and to this union two children were born, Taliyah and Maurice, Jr. He was a loving and fun Dad who adored his children and step-children.
Maurice was well known for his love of music and art. He was a talented artist from a young age and could draw anything. He also enjoyed designing tattoos. He performed for several years as a rapper, writing his own songs in a music studio he designed and built in his home. Everyone who knew Maurice knew of his love for singer/guitarist Jimi Hendrix. So much so, his mother often referred to him as her “flower child.”
In 2017, he graduated from Virginia College with a degree in culinary arts. He was an amazing chef and foodie who loved to try anything new. He enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. He was always the life of the party, singing and dancing, and making everyone laugh with his silly sense of humor.
Maurice passed away on September 10, 2019.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Evelyn Ross Smith and children Taliyah Smith, Maurice Smith, Jr., Trinise Bishop (Tre’mon), and Courtney James; Mother, Tanya T. Smith; Father, Craig Atkinson (Annette); Brothers and sister, Matthew Smith, Joshua Smith, Brandon Atkinson, Chandler Atkinson, Elyssia Atkinson, and Christian Atkinson. Grandparents, Margaret Thomas Smith, Jackie Adams, and George Atkinson; Niece and nephew, Jacob Smith and Erin Smith; Aunts, Tarcia Smith Bush and Michele Atkinson; Uncle Terlazzo Smith, Jr. (Sharon); Great-Uncle, Willy Tomas (Tanom); Cousins, Tristan Shonfelt, Justin Bush, Ashley Bush, Matthew Smith, and Terlazzo Smith III; many more family members and friends.
