Truit proudly served his country in the United States Army for over a decade, earning the rank of Sergeant before retiring. His military service instilled in him a strong sense of duty, which he carried into his subsequent career in law enforcement. He was deeply committed to protecting and serving his community, having worked with the Chatham County Police Department and later at Savannah State University, where he further contributed to maintaining safety within the educational sector.
Truit’s legacy is one of integrity and leadership, qualities that were evident in both his professional life and personal interactions. He was known for his kindness and approachability, often taking the time to mentor younger officers and imparting wisdom gained throughout his years of service. Those who knew him have countless stories that speak to his unwavering commitment to justice and community wellbeing.
Family and friends will gather to honor Mr. Thompson’s memory during upcoming services. A viewing will take place on August 1, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Adams Funeral Services located at 510 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, GA 31405. The funeral service will follow on August 2, 2025, at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, beginning at 12:00 PM concluding with Military Honors. Finally, Truit will be laid to rest at Beaufort National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
