Mr. James Edward White, Jr.

January 1, 1948 — September 7, 2023

Savannah, GA

James Edward White, Jr was born in Chatham County on January 1, 1948.  Affectionately known by his family and friends as Bubba, he was the first born to the late Minister James and Sarah L. White.  He was a lifelong native of Savannah GA and a graduate of Sol C. Johnson High School class of 1967.  There he ran track and was known as one of the “best dressed” students.

He was a gifted singer and guitarist.  At an early age he was a member of his family’s group, The Sensational White Family Singers.  Shortly afterwards he and friends from the neighborhood formed the Silver Stars Quartet.

James began his career as a lead technician at Earl Schieb Paint & Body.  He was also previously employed by Johnny Harris Restaurant, Georgia Steamship, and was an independent truck driver.

James had a great sense of humor and passion for life.  He had his own personal nickname for “everyone” in his immediate family.  He was a man that didn’t mince his words and stood on his beliefs.  James lived by the mantra “Keep on Pushing” inspired by his favorite singer Curtis Mayfield.  He had an affectionate side and is remembered for always planting a kiss on his mother’s forehead every time he was in her presence.

He was formerly married to the lovely Rose White from Hilton Head, SC.

After a brief illness, he made his transition to his new home on Thursday September 7, 2023.  He was preceded in death by his parents Minister James White, Sr and Sarah L. White; his brother Julius “Juba” White; his sister Sarah Glover, his brother in-law Leroy Scott, Arthur Glover, and Reggie Cole, his sister in-law Rebecca Bush-White, and a Spiritual Godmother, Evangelist Mother Faith.

James leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Ruth Coles, Ruby Ponder, and Kathleen Scott; brothers, Al (Ruth) Falligan, Edward (Dorothy) Lowe, and Lester Lec’k White; a cousin/sister, Barbara Flowers, neighbor Barbara Frederick-Cutter, and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving family, and friends.
