Obituary

Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Larry Harris Sr. was born on March 4, 1967, in Savannah, Georgia, to Alphonso Harris Sr. and Nellie Mae Williams. He entered eternal rest at home on February 11, 2026.

He attended public schools in Savannah, where he graduated from Alfred E. Beach High School in 1985. While in high school, he was an active member of the Beach High School JROTC program. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served honorably for 32 years. He completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis, Virginia. He was awarded the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 68J. He retired honorably in 2017 at the rank of Command Sergeant Major.

Throughout his distinguished military career, CSM Harris completed numerous professional military education courses, including the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic and Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Courses, First Sergeant Course, Military Operations on Urban Terrain School, Army Aviation Safety Course, Air Assault School, and Rappel Master Course. He also earned an Associate Degree from Central Texas College.

During his service, he received numerous awards and decorations, including the Meritorious Service Medal (4th Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 4, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral 3, and both Kuwait Liberation Medals (Saudi Arabia and Kuwait). His badges include the Master Aviation Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Driver and Mechanic Badge.

CSM Harris was preceded in death by his father, Alphonso Harris Sr.; his mother, Nellie Mae Williams; and his sister, Janice Harris.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Chance Harris, Alicia Harris, Patrick Harris, Patrice Skyner, and Larry Harris Jr. (LJ); his brothers, Henry Harris and Alphonso Harris Jr.; his grandchildren, Andrew, Amara, Adriana, and Nivey; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A viewing will take place on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Adams Funeral Services, located at 510 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, GA 31405.

The following day on Thursday, March 5, 2026, there will be a burial service at Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors starting at 12:00 PM the cemetery is situated at 1601 Boundary St, Beaufort, SC 29902.

Larry's spirit and memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
