Dr. Christopher Ide passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, at the age of 77. A remarkable individual, Dr. Ide was born on November 24, 1948 in Yenizue-Epie, Bayelsa State, Nigeria and during his many years left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him.

Throughout his life, Dr. Ide displayed a steadfast dedication to his vocation, a commitment mirrored in the relationships he cherished with his loved ones. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lilian Ide, whose partnership and support were a constant source of strength. Dr. Ide is also remembered lovingly by daughters Bemeyi Ide-Ibanichuka and Osioeni Ide-Sanders, who continues his legacy with pride. Left to mourn him are his brother: Elliott, 7 grandchildren: Jeremiah, Josiah, Joshua, Cynthia, Sonia, Emmanuel and Gratitude, sons-in-law John and Emmanuel. Others are Nephews, Nieces, cousins and a host of relatives too numerous to mention.

Christopher Ide left his country of birth Nigeria to the United States of America in 1972 to further his Education. After Elementary school education in Nigeria, where he performed brilliantly, he could not proceed to High school due to lack of funding/sponsorship. He remained productive within the family and the community. A few years later he became a fortunate winner of a local lottery ticket, with which he funded his journey to America. He went ahead to obtain his GED, passed through all the levels in Education until he obtained the Doctoral degree in 1988 at the Atlanta University.

Dr. Ide taught Political Science and other courses in some universities in the States of Alabama, Virginia and Georgia. The last institution where he taught longest was the Savannah State University, retiring in 2014 after spending 23 years.

Dr. Ide’s long and accomplished journey was characterized by professionalism and resolve. His legacy is reflected in the grace with which he navigated life’s challenges and the integrity he exhibited in both his personal and professional realms. Though his career and accomplishments are not detailed here, his influence and memory will endure through those who knew and loved him.

Family, friends, and colleagues are invited to honor Dr. Ide’s life during a series of commemorative events. A viewing will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Services, located at 510 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, GA 31405.

On that day, Dr. Ide will be laid to rest at Catholic Cemetery, 1720 Wheaton St, Savannah, GA 31404.
